FEES AND EXPENSES

Pack 1860’s Annual Total Fees are $225 (2023-24) PLUS a fundraising (decor sales) goal. This amount includes registration in the BSA national system, support for the BSA’s National Capital Area Council, Scout’s Life magazine, badges/awards and scout’s Pack expenses for most activities.

If you have a first-time,new to Scouting child, you must register online at BeAScout.org. Search for “Pack 1860 Clifton Lions Club” to find us. You will be charged the national fees and the Scout Life magazine subscription (plus a one-time-only $25 initiation fee.) The Pack will collect the balance of the fees. ($130),

Occasionally, there will be small fees to cover the costs of family members at Pack Meeting picnics and banquets, and some optional den and pack activities have associated costs.

Pack 1860 sells Holiday Decor to defray expenses; each family has a wreath sales goal. Tools and information about the sales process are available on the Parents/Family page. We also participate in the voluntary BSA Friends of Scouting Campaign fundraising campaign in the Spring.

Financial aid is available.  Use this BSA link for Financial Support, and please also inquire with the Pack Cubmaster or Treasurer.

UNIFORM AND HANDBOOK

Dressing in uniform is an integral part of scouting, as a uniform provides group identity and signals achievement and wearing it well is a visible representation of presenting one’s best self to the world.

The official uniform is a nationally produced Cub Scout shirt with appropriate patches. These can be obtained at the Scout Store in Annandale, or purchased online. Guidance on badges and uniform is available on-line. Previously-owned uniforms can often be obtained at thrift stores, online, or in the free “cub closet” maintained by the pack (ask the Cubmaster).

The uniform shirt is to be worn with a neckerchief and slide. These must be purchased for a scout’s first year; after that, they are provided by the Pack.

Cub Scout hats, shorts/skort/trousers, and socks can be obtained; a fully outfitted scout looks really sharp! The Cub Scout belt is recommended since awards come as belt loops and a red felt “Bragging Vest” is available for patches and pins.

The casual uniform alternative is a Pack-specific yellow t-shirt; the Pack arranges an annual sale of shirts at-cost for Scouts and adults.

Each Scout will need a Den-specific Handbook each year.
